How to get an OTP (One time password) / URN (Unqiue Registration Number) when you are outside India

How to get an OTP (One time password) / URN (Unqiue Registration Number) when you are outside India

Country
:Global

Example

Bank

ICICI

If you are travelling or on deputation to other countries from India. It will be difficult to get OTP/URN SMS on mobile phones during on-line banking like fund transfers/ e shopping etc...

Option 1:

You can retain the Indian network SIM card (eg. Airtel, BSNL,Vodafone )and keep it active by recharging or receiving calls when you are abroad.

So that you get these SMS when you need

Disadvantages:
  • Additional Maintenance cost
  • In case of post paid SIM, you need to pay monthly rent
  • Additional handset for maintaining this number

Option 2:

People who visit for short/long term (>3months) may opt this

Many leading banks like ICICI, SBI , Yes bank allows you to get these SMS on your abroad mobile numbers without changing your account to NRI account.

I will take example of ICICI

  • Click on Mobile banking (scroll down to bottom of the page)

  • Now download registration form from ICICI NRI banking section

  • Fill all the details and attach necessary documents with self attestation and signature on registration form

  • If you are from UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore and UAE search local Postal address and send via local mail

  • For others eg, Germany Visit nearest Deutsche post and send the post to Hyderabad address as mentioned in ICICI website (ref image above).

  • It will take nearly 1month for updating your number, may be after 15-20days you can call bank customer care number to expedite the process..
