All season smart water way grid for Karnataka

Transcript of Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam's speech on 17.09.2013 at Bangalore.

He wanted to give a message to Karnataka.  To all scientists, technologists, managers and leaders.

To develop all season smart water way grid.

He was thinking in flight what is the core competence of Karnataka.

He came with following

Garden
Rainforest
Water  and
People of Karnataka

Bangalore is famous for IT and other equipments.

He asked himself what should Karnataka should be known for?

One unique system.

Brand Karnataka.

To create an all season smart water way grid.

He asked to send an email to apj.abdulkalam.com if not understood. He will reply.

Idea of all season smart water way grid:

All flood water, excess water to route in smart way and store and supply during drought.

Not only to store but also to release it to states/areas where water scarcity is more.

This water way will have following advantages.

Navigation of heavy goods.
Transportation of equipmens and people at reduced cost.
Electricity generation.
Feeding for irrigation purpose.
Imprpved nature.
Improve in tourism.

If Karnataka has done all other states will implement this.

He asked Karnataka government to take up this job. And wished everyone for their success.

Idea of 5S (Skill, Scale, Speed, Smart and Sustain)

I was hearing to Sri Narendra Modi's speech, he tossed an idea of 3S to be followed by Indians to overtake China.

What are these 3S?

Skill
Scale
Speed

It's very interesting and innovative idea . I started comparing this 3S to every work / project / activity. It really makes some sense if you implement this 3S in any activity to achieve success. I also thought and added other 2S.

Smart
Sustain

So total 5S idea for success.

Let's discuss about each S

Skill :

One needs to be skilled and competent in his area to achieve his goals. Skill should be developed by learning and practicing.

Scale :

Scale represents mass or big. You want to achieve something then achieve big. Have a big dream.

Speed :

Whatever you do you should be fast. In this competition world we have to jog to stand at the same place. To achieve more we should be faster.

Smart :

You should be smarter to win the race. Smart thinking will give you very good results and status. More smarter you are more you achieve.

Sustain :

Once you have achieved success you should sustain. You should continually improve on your strength.

I am trying to follow this 5S rules where ever possible.

Try this and let me know your views.

Thanks

Agriculture is the back bone of Indian Economy

Agriculture is the back bone of Indian Economy

After coming to Germany, it has become part time job for me to compare India with Germany. I am worried about one thing...

What is that?

Let's go 15 years back from now. It was the time where many villagers income was only from agriculture. India used to be called as country of farmers Depending upon the monsoon the crop use to be grown at different parts of the country...

Agriculture is one sector where nature gambles with human.. Many farmers comitted suicide due to flood, drought, cyclone or loss.. Over a years agriculture sector has become a risky business... The profit margin is very less and mainly no fixed income.. If you see major percentage of farmers will not have second income or in other words many farmers are school drop outs and illiterates..

Present Situation:
Consider cities like Bangalore or Mumbai, cities which never sleeps, where  job requirements are increasing day by day and people infiltration from rural area  for jobs also increasing day by day.

At one part farmers are going through tough time with no fixed income and on the other side the industries are growing.. Jobs requirement in Malls, security, catering, construction etc.. are also increasing.

It's obvious and wise decision from farmers to come to cities to earn their bread and butter mainly to have some fixed income...

Another fact is very less educated people are moving to agriculture sector or involved in farming...

Over a period of time farmers will come to cities and educated people do not go to villages for farming. The productive farming land becomes non productive.. One day these lands will be considered as non productive and will be allotted to industries or it will be urbanised.

Here are some statistics from Ministry of Agriculture Department, India

2001 Statistics:

Total Population (2001) : 1028.7 Millions

Rural Population (2001) : 742.6 Millions (72.2% of total Population)

2011 Statistics:

Total Population (2001) : 1210.2 Millions

Rural Population (2001) : 833.1 Millions (68.8% of total Population)

Agriculture share in GDP (%)

1950-1951: 56.5%
1970-1971: 45.9%
2000-2001: 24.7%
2009-2010: 15.7%

As we neglect Agriculture..
  • Our GDP comes down..
  • Importing of vegetables and pulses will increase.
  • Cost of food items increases.
  • Also cost of living increases.
So, I believe, I have transferred my worries to you ....

But think our future the day is not far where we need to pay Rs.100 for 1 kilo Rice Or Rs.150 for one kilo onion...

We believe Agriculture is the back bone of Indian economy, but we never realised.

It's the time we should start improving Agriculture sector..

You may ask, Is there any solution?

May be yes, I will this question to you ask yourself and fin the answer, if found please share with us also..

But, Here are my ideas...

I know one of my German colleague in office, who does farming after his office work, he grows vegetables, cherries, strawberries etc..

We in India need a paradigm shift, agriculture is not only for villagers but It's for all. One should start involving in agriculture. I will bet in future years there will be huge scope for Agriculture..

In schools there should be subject on Agriculture with practicals, where a kid can learn at least how to make gardening and t how to cultivate within small garden.

Advancement is agriculture equipments reduces human fatigue. As I can see in Germany ten acre of field will be cultivated by 2 persons and with big agri culture tractors..

There should be some organisations which takes farmers as employees, does farming/cultivation and gives farmers (employees) a fixed salary..

So this was my worry and some ideas to convince myself. I leave this topic to you and expect your ideas..

Thank you,
Jeevan

11.11.11 11.11

11.11.11 11.11

At 11.11.11 on 11.11.11, the time and date will be a perfect same-numbered palindrome, reading the same backwards as forwards, an event which can only happen on one day every 100 years, the Daily Mail reported.

While some consider it as the perfect day for a wedding, some "prophecy" web forums claimed it could also be the end of the world.

The reason the date is so unusual is that 11.11.11 is the only double-figure palindromic date, since there is no 22nd month.

Four Stages of Competence

Four Stages of Competence

We all did this, when we first used the computer; we opened ours eyes widely and told

‘Damn, who created this keyboard? It is difficult to find letters’

But now we type in the same QWERTY keyboard without looking in to the keyboard…

How did we do that?

We could able to do it because we have followed the four stages of competence to become competent in typing…

What are four stages of competence?

Happy and Safe Diwali

Safe Diwali

I still remember that day, when I was in 6th standard.. We all went to our native village to celebrate Diwali.. Lots of sweets and crackers, everyone one in my family played with fire crackers, even my Grandpa use to lit Lakshmi atom bomb with candle.

I was little afraid of atom bomb and Lakshmi atom bomb, since it use to make huge sound. So I asked to bring more Moole Pataki (Corner Cracker triangular in shape) and Aane Pataki (Elephant cracker, small red color cracker used to make chain of crackers, sara Pataki). I had got two to three packets of these crackers...

Don’t follow the calf path

Don’t follow the calf path

Five years back when I was starting my professional career my manager gave me one task. After completing the task, I went to him with the result and after some conversation he just told me 'Don't follow the calf path'

Be Practical

Be Practical

I will start with an incident which took place in Coimbatore, 6 months ago.

It was Friday, after the work, many of us boarded in company bus… after about 10mins of journey, there was a spark from the bulb inside the bus. The bulb was not tightly fitted, so it was just hanging with some small sparks.

Many ran from that place to other place to protect themselves, some girls just shouted and one guy went with newspaper to hold the bulb & to fix it. Many gave free advises.

But, suddenly bus stopped, bus driver came and grabbed the bulb and just pulled out of the socket, the wires got cut and he took the bulb and continued to drive.

For one second, all were silent and realized how much practical knowledge is important.

We were all so called Engineers inside the bus, we have studied electrical and automotive electrical. We have scored good marks. We know it’s a 12V or 24V supply u can handle it easily.

But still we were not daring to do what bus driver did!!!

We get graduated from great universities with highest ranks and scores. But we did not get confidence and practical knowledge!!!

Coming to same incident, the bus driver had practical experience in changing bulbs or he might have experienced the same incident before. From his practical experience he had the confidence that this voltage will not hurt him anyways.

What we did? We started calculating power? Recalling Ohm’s law Bla Bla….But if our practical experience were good we would have just went and removed the bulb from the socket with our bare hands.

An Automobile engineer will take 1hr to remove tire from a bike, but an uneducated boy from the shop needs only 10min.

An Electrical engineer needs 1 hr to find what is the problem in mixer? But an ITI guy from service shop need 1hr to repair.

This list goes on… there are many examples to give..

Being an Engineer, its not only to have theoretical knowledge, we also need very good practical knowledge. Both are equally important.

Remember we are living in practical world, it demands more practical person.

Guys, other than just reading books and getting some knowledge, let’s do some experiments and practical stuffs.

My request is, just try to put in to action what you have learnt. Do some experiments in your domain. Improve your confidence and practical knowledge.

Many inventions have happened while doing experiments and some are by accidents also.

Books give us only Ideal condition, experiments teach us practical condition and it improves our confidence to live in practical environment.

In practical world, you teach yourself. You will learn from your own mistakes. You will gain more confidence.

Be Practical!!!!!!

(Practice makes man perfect)

Just Remember, which Google cannot answer...

Do you remember....

a) What latin phrase would translate to "from an angry man"?

b) What does 'M' in Einsteins historically famous conclusion "E=MC Squared" stand for?

c) When did Edmund Hillary die?

d) What was Einsteins fathers name?

e) Alfred Nobel had a hit in the mid 1800s with his invention, the what?

f) A ghost is often called what?

Oooooopssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really know some of you might have already started searching in Google for answers.. or some of you may remember or some of you may be thinking "Get lost man, who the hell knows what's this?"..

I bet most of us, even if we have read these somewhere also cannot recall or remember the answers...

Guys who are still searching on the Google kindly post the answers in comments.. because even I don't know?

But why am I asking these stupid questions?

Before answering the above question, again I am asking

Do you remember.....

a) Who has taken care of you when you are sick and away from home?

b) Who has helped in month end, when you have short off money?

c) Who taught you good things?

d) Who are your three best friends, who changed your life?

I know some of you know started thinking and recalling..

But guys over there, please don't search in Google... you will never find this..

Its not a problem that if you don't remember who won last world cup ? or who is the president of Uganda?

But it matters if you don't remember the second set of questions...

Normally, we read books, surf internet, to gain some knowledge.. Or we search Google at least whenever there is a need?

If you ask me even I will use Google to know the correct spelling.. because if in case if spelling is wrong it shows "Did you mean ......"

Why am I telling this is because, we are  so dependent on internet and gadgets now a days..

but remember there are some things even Google can't answer to your question...

Remember...Never forget people who have helped you or taught you some thing or the other....

and

Just Remember, which Google cannot answer...

Auf Wiedersehen...(Goodbye)

Sometimes Expectations are Unexpected

Lets rewind little bit

Many times we feel disheartened with our family, friends, colleagues, superiors, subordinates etc... for one are the other reason.

But when we observe closely, we find something strange, something we cannot accept, something we never EXPECTED......!!!!

Then what is it????

Yes, many times we fail to fulfill the EXPECTATIONS of our dear ones and results in quarrel, dishearten.

This is the situation, where both are right but still we end up quarrellings.

We always cannot expect the expectations of other person.

That's why I called " Expectations are Unexpected"

Now we started thinking. Is there any solution for this?

Lets take an example of a couple.

Wife expects her husband to reach home early and spend time with her, take her out to have road side chats are something which looks to be small. But she expects all this things to be done by her husband voluntarily.

But husband his working hard to earn money to take his wife to north India trip for their wedding anniversary.

In this situation both are innocent and their expectations are 100% valid.

But still they quarrel every eve for coming late or not going to shopping bla bla.

Then where is the gap...

Their is a gap between them that is COMMUNICATION GAP.

In this case, its better that husband to know what are her expectations... and to explain her what is his expectations

Lets take another example.

A son expects his father to present him a new bike but not cycle for his coming birthday.

But father presents him a cycle for his birthday, due to his financial commitments.

Now son is upset!!!!!

Here, son should have expected less, if he gets cycle then he will be happy that he got something for his birthday. If he gets bike, then he will be delighted.....

So expect less and get delighted...

These examples are just examples, I told you to rewind in the beginning,  now who might have come across... many real time situations similar to these examples...

Plan your actions and delight yourself and others....

If you have expected more from this post, I am sorry, sometimes " Expectations are Unexpected"

Resolution or Re-solution

One thing every body does in new year is - taking resolution.

Every year we take some resolution to get rid of some bad habits or strictly follow some good habits. But same resolution repeats for many years without completing.

The enthu which was there on 1st Jan will not remain for 15 days or 1 month.

The resolution fails... What sort of Re-Solution required to maintain our resolution?

Why we always wait for some particular day to start some resolution?

Why this cannot be anyday?

Answer is we are people who always try to do some work tomorrow, not today.
We always try to push the work. We need some special day to influence our mind.

Why cannot we celebrate each day as new day?

Come on guys lets take resolution for short term and complete the same.

Lets feel every day as first day.

Lets feel every morning as new birth.

Enjoy the happiness of completing our small resolutions...

Target for bigger target and then for biggest..

When we need to walk for 2km, do not start by thinking that I need to walk 2km instead think I need to walk 500m four times.

Every time you complete 500m you will feel the happiness of completing something and  getting closer to main goal.

Its better to eat pieces of roti rather than to eat entire roti in one shot.

Short term goals will help you in accomplishing bigger goals.

So let's take small resolution and feel the joy of completing that.
